Asia Desk is a supporter of local non-profits within the region that better the lives of those less fortunate. We currently work with and support :
Walking Hope is a student-run endeavor aimed at providing relief in the lives of disabled and underprivileged children. Not only does this include the provision of physical braces and physiotherapy sessions, but also includes collaborating with local dentists so that these children may receive dental care, and building bridges in the rural Mekong Delta to ensure that thousands of students have safe access to school. Located in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Walking Hope was founded on the 9th of April, 2013 by four close cousins with a strong desire to help out others.
Soi Dog Foundation
We are all animal lovers here at Asia Desk and after experiencing firsthand the street dog problem we've taken this to heart with the adoption of our own Thai mixed breed (soi dogs) in recent years. Soi Dog Foundation was established in 2003 in Phuket, Thailand, to help the street dogs and cats who had no-one else to care for them. Over 50,000 strays roamed the island, with the numbers growing alarmingly high due to a lack of sterilisation (spay/neuter) programmes to control the population. Soi Dog was created to provide a humane and sustainable solution to managing the stray population and to address their medical needs. Funding then, as it is now, came entirely from individuals who shared, and continue to share, the vision of its founders.
Soi Dog also campaigns for an improvement in animal welfare rights across Asia, and helps animals affected by natural disasters, such as the severe flooding in southern Thailand in 2017 and prior to that, the Bangkok floods of 2011 and the Asian tsunami of 2004.
